Experience
One-on-one educational professional. Over 10,000 hours of tutoring experience, professional tutor since 2006. Professionally trained SAT/ACT and GRE prep tutor Worked as a specially trained peer writing consultant at Columbus State University's Writing Center under Dr. Lape, 2007-2009 Specializing in reading/writing skills from elementary through the college level Experienced in working with learning disabilities, behavioral problems and ADD/ADHD students I work with all grade levels, from elementary school through the college level. I specialize in adapting my lessons to each individual student and their needs, and have a wide range of experience in taking a student's stage of life into account. Methodology: non-directive, inquiry-based teaching to create self-motivating students. Each object lesson is a springboard to educate students about greater subjects that will apply to their lives as adults and make them wiser, inquisitive, mature human beings. Long-term Tutoring Goals: Though the term "life-long learners" may be rather quaint, the idea is not. I seek to build up and encourage students to ask bigger questions, dare to make mistakes in the pursuit of answers, and to be bold in their quest for knowledge. Grades and knowledge are not measurements of intelligence, and a student who is determined can overcome any obstacles. My goal is to train students to not need me by showing them how to recognize and compensate for their academic weaknesses and biggest challenges. After working with me, they will move forward into their future equipped with skills that will support them throughout their lives. Results: For academic tutoring/homework coach positions, with a struggling student I average a 10/100 point grade point increase per semester. To optimize this, contacting me more than a few weeks before finals gives your student and I the best possible chance of bringing their grade up and -- more importantly -- correcting their knowledge gaps and study habits.
