Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree in Biology from Colby College. During my attendance at Colby, I minored in Classics and was a Rugby player for all 4 years. Thereafter, I returned home to Manhattan to join AmeriCorps and provide a term of service at a health center in a community in Harlem. I was also studying to take the MCATs. My biggest concern with tutoring is to connect with my students and to help pinpoint their learning styles, in order to help them understand concepts. Not only do I want to help my students learn and understand subjects, I want to be a positive role model that a student can turn to and receive motivation. I am especially determined to help students who need assistance with preparing for standardized testing. I believe that these tests are set up in ways that are confusing and tricky, which can cause frustrations. I have the skills and experience to walk a student through these obstacles while promoting independence and creating confidence in their own abilities to conquer these feats. I favor the sciences since their correlation to all things in life is what helps us understand the world around us. Having this knowledge will bring a person to a higher appreciation to the life that is revolving around our human existence. When I am free, I like to read, fish, play with my dog and rabbit, and cook.
