Hobbies

My favorite things are nature, philosophy, science, languages, exercise, travelling, and music. I am a part-time professional freelance writer, musician, composer, and university professor. In philosophy I am most interested in language, cognition, and meaning. In science, I have had a life-long passion for astronomy and physics. In linguistics, I speak Russian, Mandarin, French, and a little bit of many other languages. As a writer, although I have written many academic essays, I prefer to write creative non-fiction, such as my travel stories. I've spent years traveling in Asia where I had many remarkable experiences. Musically, I play jazz sitar and compose classical music, so far only for guitar. For exercise, I like to swim, lift weights, and practice tai chi.
